Standup comedy- An incredible remedy to stress and depression

In the fast paced world, lives are full of distress, depression, hassle and anxiety. Good standup comedy is the best remedy to such problems. Comic shows instill a feeling of real inner happiness among individuals suffering from low moods. Even the most depressed people burst out into laughter at skillful delivery of jokes by a professional comedian.

What do you mean by standup comedy?

It is the style with which a standup comic presents himself by directly interacting with the live audience viewing the show. They perform the act by means of a monologue that encrusts fast paced succession of short jokes, humorous stories, one- liners etc. Some really creative props or magical tricks make the act more inviting and entertaining. There are stand up comedy courses available that makes you learn different ways to write funny scripts and present it in a humorous manner. Standup comedy is an art that can’t be pre- decided completely. Stage presence and audience- communicative comedy always involves some level of spontaneity. Punch lines are the key to deliver successful comedy dialogues.

How to improve your standup comedy performance?

• Even after procuring a stand up comedy course, you need to perform regular practice for more effectual stage presentations. For a 5 min performance, you need to devote at least 20 min to rehearsals.

• Make your rehearsals as loud as possible visualizing it as if you are presenting it in front of the live audience.

• Materialize your script effectively with appropriate insertion of reactions and punch lines. • Involve the audience as well to make it more interactive and relating. Get comments and statements from the crowd to keep them involved.

• Your material should be related to the current affairs and happenings of the world. This way people will be aware of what you are talking about and can easily relate to the matter

Considerations for a Comedy Learner and an Instructor

Learning to make people laugh is quite a challenging task. Also finding a place to learn is even more challenging. There are a number of stand-up comedy schools, comedy instructors, workshops and stand-up coaches and choosing one from them can greatly puzzle an individual who wish to learn the art of comedy.

The blog is a guideline for both the individual who desire to learn comedy and to the trainers who provide comedy coaching as of what to consider while choosing a comedy class and what are the thing the instructors should take care of.

The Teaching Outlook: The way the instructors teach can greatly help out or hinder the learning process of an individual. Many people believe that criticizing in is an effective way to teach, however, criticizing does not help anything rather it demoralizes the learner. A good comedy teacher will guide and help the way out for an individual in writing and improving the material the person desires to communicate through comedy act.

Was the Instructor a good Comedian of his time? : It would be unfair to believe on the old saying which goes like “Those that do, do – and those who cannot, teach”. The efficiency of a teacher cannot be judged based on the past; it is all about his approach and experience gained with the course of time.

Can a Comedian be a Good Instructor? : Most of the people who were good at this niche start to teach or coach other people as well. However, not all people are meant to teach others. They may try to make you funny as they are. An ideal comedy teacher would understand the fact that all comedians have different comic sense.

Life after Coaching: Now what after the comedy coaching ends? The instructor(s) should provide on-going or advanced comedy classes for the further growth of the comic talent.
